We understand that these days of “quarantine time” can be somewhat challenging, and sometimes it seems like the minutes just creep by. But you don’t just have to watch the time pass by – there are things you can do to seize this opportunity to turn stay at home time into productive time for you, your family, and your home. Here are some ways you can turn home time into quality time:

Remind yourself that this is temporary

Practice mindfulness, take the proper health precautions, and remind yourself (and your family) — this won’t be a forever! One of my dear friends from India beautifully reminded me… many things, this too shall pass!

Enjoy quality family time

If you’re a parent, you have the opportunity to spend more quality time together as a family. Obviously you can watch TV shows or movies together, but you can also be more intentional about building in collaborative and interactive family activities, too. You could get out a board game, create a Vision Board with images of your family life intentions and goals, or work on a puzzle together. Maybe even plant a garden in the backyard. Planting a garden has been on my bucket list for years, and I finally planted one last weekend. The sense of accomplishment, the time outside and being in the moment with my hands in the dirt was more healing than I ever could have imagined. Be creative, make a list of things you’ve always wanted to try, and start to check some of those items off the list. Or perhaps you set Intentions and goals at the New Year that you haven’t made good on yet – well, now you’ve got the time to make those happen! Feeling inspired while doing things together can bring a lot of joy!

Get fresh air and exercise

Get outside! Go for a walk, a hike, play golf or pickleball – either on your own, or with your family. It’s safe to go outside as long as you still keep your social distance, and the fresh air and exercise is so good for your mental state.

Learn a new skill

Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn how to play the guitar, cook, draw, do photography, or learn a new language, or manage your time better. Thanks to our digital connectedness, you can learn pretty much any skill you want. I’ve always wanted to make my own nut butters, and this morning, with the gift of extra time, and a YouTube video, I finally made my own Pecan Butter. It was so simple, yet so gratifying! There are many free online videos and courses that can help you learn just about anything your heart desires.

Get organized

If you’ve been following our Jennifer Adams blogs, then you know that two of our recurrent themes revolve around the benefits of simplifying and decluttering your home. Well, it’s still Spring, so this quarantine period is a perfect time for you to go ahead and get to that Spring Cleaning you’ve been putting off! No doubt there’s SOMETHING in your home that needs cleaning and reorganizing. Pro tip: Map out your attack plan in manageable chunks, and focus on one room at a time. Or even one drawer at a time! Start with a small section of the closet, then the next, and once that’s complete, move on to the bedroom, the living room, the kitchen, the garage, etc. section by section. You can do it! Before you know it, those small sections become a completely organized home. And be sure to check our website and blog page for more tips!

Give Back

Sometimes a simple random act of kindness to brighten someone else’s day is all it takes to shift into a positive mindset. Try it. It doesn’t have to be anything major. Something as simple as dropping off a plant, or fruit at someone’s doorstep can brighten their day… and yours too!

Add some creative décor to your home

Quarantine time is really a great time to focus on sprucing up your home’s interior and adding a little home décor pizzazz. How’d you like to have access to some unique, handcrafted African pieces that also benefit the local artisans in Ghana, Uganda, and Rwanda? Well, that’s exactly what you get with our Handcrafted Décor Collection. Take some time to peruse our amazing selection of one-of-a-kind woven baskets, bowls, trays, vases, and more.

Practice self-care

One more tip – be sure you’re taking the opportunity to care for yourself during this challenging time. For gaining inspiration towards reaching your full potential, I’d recommend my book How High Can You Soar.
