I know the feeling of wishing you could be instantly transported to one! Apart from the stunning settings, part of the magic and allure is the opportunity to escape stress and daily chores. Tips and tricks for transforming your bathroom into a private oasis

Read on for some of my best tips and tricks for transforming your bathroom into a private oasis. Get ready to soak your cares away and embrace a tranquil spa-like experience without ever leaving home!

Keep your bathroom open, airy and clutter free

Keep your bathroom open, airy and clutter free

What makes spas feel so luxurious, besides a staff dedicated to your every whim, is how airy, open and clutter-free they are. In contrast, a cluttered space can be stressful and distracting. So the first step in creating a spa-like bathroom is to remove all non-essentials (apart from the plumbing fixtures and cabinets, of course!). Just focus on the things that will make you feel good.

This is also an opportunity to clear the clutter from the counter, floor, and overflowing cabinets. Go through your hair products, makeup drawer and shaving corner and toss everything that is more than a year old or the wrong color. You won’t use it anyway, so why keep it? Make room in the drawers or in baskets for the products you do use.  Attractive storage solutions like baskets or glass jars will allow you to keep your essentials handy while maintaining a serene and stylish environment. Toothbrushes, shavers and hair dryers should also be stored out of sight. Same thing goes for magazines, extra toilet paper rolls and cleaning supplies. A little effort to keep your bathroom clean and airy will pay off big when you do get to pamper yourself!

Have fresh towels on hand

Have fresh towels on hand (and lots of them!)

One of the simple joys of visiting a spa is wrapping yourself in a fluffy towel after a luxurious treatment. Treat yourself to this pleasure at home by investing in plush, high-quality towels. Choose soft materials like Egyptian cotton, and make sure to keep them within easy reach, so you can indulge yourself after a relaxing bath or shower.

Plush towels ready for a pampering session

A damp towel from two days ago also isn’t very luxurious. Pamper yourself with a clean one for every shower! It’s amazing how lovely this feels. Save money by buying less expensive towels. Make them all the same color and you will save time on laundry, too.

If you have the space and budget, install a towel warmer for a real treat!

Create a pleasant scent-scape

Create a pleasant scent-scape

Scent plays a significant role in creating a spa-like experience! Fill your bathroom with delightful aromas. Relaxing scents include chamomile, jasmine, rose, lavender and sandalwood to name a few. Scented oils, soaps, candles, flowers or even a fragrant cup of tea will provide a luxurious, relaxing and aromatic experience. A warning however: keep all oils, minerals, soaps and small candles away from children. The beautiful packaging and delectable aromas are far too often mistaken for food or candy.

Aromatherapy is more than just lovely scents from fragrances, flowers or candles. It’s also the lack of undesirable odors! Relegate the cat box, diaper pail and dirty clothes hamper to the laundry room or a bathroom that’s less frequently used. A working exhaust fan also helps clear unpleasant odors and excess moisture that can cause mold or mildew.

Bathtub for a serene and luxurious bath

Create a relaxing soaking tub

Having a luxurious soaking bathtub is a must for the ultimate spa experience. Minerals, special clays, salts and other bath additives will help your regular old bathtub feel like a spring-fed pool. Fill your bath with warm water and add some bath salts or bubble bath to enhance relaxation. Dim the lights, light some candles, play some soft music, and sink into the warm embrace of the water. For an extra touch of opulence, use a bath caddy, where you can set a book, glass of wine, or some calming tea while you soak your worries away.

Spa-inspired shower area

Upgrade your shower experience

If you don’t have a tub, a luxuriously long shower is also a delight. If you have space and budget, consider upgrading your shower to include a rain showerhead. The flow of water from above mimics the feeling of being caught in a gentle rainstorm, providing a soothing and luxurious experience. You can also install a handheld showerhead for added flexibility. To complete the experience, indulge in some luscious shower gels and scrubs that leave your skin feeling pampered and silky smooth.

Create a relaxing ambience

Put the lights on dimmers, and add a window or skylight if you can afford it and it makes sense with your house. Different levels of lighting automatically create different moods. Lower lighting levels are relaxing and romantic, but you need brighter lights for applying makeup, shaving or cleaning. Trying to relax with the same bright lights you use to tweeze stray hairs or clean toilets is pretty much impossible!

Pampering spa experience with soft robe

Treat yourself to a plush bathrobe

The spa experience wouldn't be complete without the right attire. Treat yourself to a luxurious bathrobe. Slip into it after your bath or shower, and you'll feel like you've stepped into a high-end spa. Our Luxury Plush Bathrobes are made of the same fabric as our ultra-soft Lux Collection Sheets and will make you feel like royalty.

Make me-time a priority

Maybe the hardest part is setting aside the time, but it’s completely worth it. It can even be a part of your decompression routine after the kids are down and your chores are finished for the day.

With a few thoughtful touches and some pampering essentials, you can create a serene oasis right in your own home. Step away from the ordinary and treat yourself to your own mini spa. Enjoy!
